Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy and How does it Work?

People are intrigued by hypnosis. Some are wary of it and others excited for it. Whatever your ideas about hypnosis, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s a fascinating subject.

If you thought that hypnosis is all about swaying pendulums, magic, mind control, unconsciousness, or sleep, then I’m sorry, but you’ve been watching too many old films or stage hypnosis shows.

Many people (including me) expected to feel very different or to have an ‘out-of-this-world experience’ when they’re hypnotised.

This is probably due to the silly things we see people doing in the stage hypnosis shows that we watch on television, right?

In fact, everyone has experienced hypnosis. Hypnosis is a completely safe, naturally occurring state that you enter every single day of your life. Does that surprise you? You may well be thinking that you’ve never been into hypnosis. In fact, you have, although you probably didn’t call it hypnosis.

It’s very similar to daydreaming or the feelings of complete and utter relaxation you experience just moments before you fall asleep or while zoned out at the cinema.

Although you’re pleasantly relaxed, you’re still conscious of everything that’s happening. You know who you are, where you are, what’s going on around you and what’s being said to you. Sometimes you’re so relaxed that you just can’t be bothered moving or talking or worrying about your problems!

People often fear that being hypnotized will make them “lose control”, surrender their will, and result in their being dominated, but a hypnotic state is not the same thing as gullibility or weakness. Many people base their assumptions about hypnotism on stage acts but fail to consider that stage hypnotists screen their volunteers to select those with possible exhibitionist tendencies, as well as responsive to hypnosis. Stage acts help create a myth about hypnosis which discourages people from finally resolving their important problems. In fact, the most intelligent and imaginative people find hypnosis easier to enter than anyone else.

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to induce a deep state of relaxation, during which our unconscious minds are highly receptive to new perspectives and ideas (but only if we’re willing to accept them). The reason it’s so effective lies in the extreme power of our unconscious mind, which stores all the memories, beliefs, habits, and behaviors we’ve developed since birth. Your subconscious is the most powerful part of your mind. It’s the part that allows you to access all your memories, habits, and feelings. If our minds were a planet, the conscious mind would be the tiny layer or crust on top. The most powerful part is underneath.

Have you ever wondered why your will power often seems overwhelmed by your feelings and emotions like craving, anger, or fear? Have you ever tried to start something and while you consciously wanted to head in one direction, you were in two minds about? Your hypnotherapist will help you unbrainwash your mind from the thoughts, images, habits, and feelings that stopped you achieving your goals. It can help us get to the root cause of our problems and give us a far better understanding of ourselves. You’ll develop immensely powerful resources from deep down inside. And as a bonus, you get to enjoy the added benefits of more confidence, deep relaxation, better sleep, and feelings of peace.

When we’re in this incredibly calm state of mind, our hypnotherapist can quieten the over thinking chatter box mind and make beneficial, positive suggestions directly to our unconscious mind, where most of our mind’s power is. The best way to explain hypnotherapy is that it’s like having someone gently guide you through a wonderfully relaxing daydream…… It can be an incredibly soothing experience!

Here’s what Oscar winning actor Matt Damon had to say after his Hypnotherapy treatment. “I should have done it years ago. It’s amazing I didn’t even want cigarettes anymore.”
